Tonight is the night before my reporting back to school. My summer goals of doing more stamping really didn’t occur as I’d hoped, but I did have a decent summer, and “technically” I still have a few more days of some form of freedom.  I have 2 days of professional time and then an extra long 4 day weekend before my students begin on Tuesday.  I am going to keep this post short because I’ve had a lot of internet issues today, but I just have to talk about the Brand New Holiday Mini catalog! When my friends Amy and Katy returned from the annual Stampin’ Up! Convention they could not stop talking about the Build A Bear Sizzix dies and projects that could be made with these.  To use these products you do need the Sizzix Big Shot, which Stampin’ Up! sells, and I happen to have…so I ordered them and have fallen in love.  They are PERFECT for some form of nametag for my students!  They are universal bears, and then you dress them any way you desire!  These are two I made this evening.  I will make the remainder prior to my students coming to class.  I plan to put their name on the shirts. I probably will just write them with a dark marker, though I may use my label maker.

If you are interested in these bears, the Designer paper they have as their clothing or anything else in the Holiday Mini, or from Stampin’ Up! feel free to contact me or place an ORDER Online! To all teachers…..have a great start to the school year and I promise…I will keep posting!

Welcome Cards

I know it’s been longer then anticipated since my last post. SORRY!! The weather turned in the NorthEast and has been improving.  On days that it is sunny and nice…I am outside all of the time and create a lot less.  I like to enjoy the sun!  I received information yesterday that indicates to me that my summer days are winding down…I got my class list for this coming school year!  I’ve been working in my classroom a bit as I’m heading back to the beach next week, but it’s really getting close to the time for me to contact families and welcome the new students for the year. In late August I send home information letters and the past few years have been sending “Welcome” cards to the students as well.  Today the weather here has been quite overcast, a perfect day for me to create.

I REALLY LOVE the New Stampin’ Up! catalog and am looking forward to the release of the Holiday Mini catalog in September, but have been trying to use product I still have from past catalogs.  When I have a workshop or class, I always use present merchandise because I want to make sure customers have the ability to purchase what they are using if  they desire, but for personal creations, I mix and match some old and new.  I had a lot of the designer paper “Good Morning Sunshine” leftover from the Spring/Summer 2009 Catalog, so I knew I wanted to use that paper.  I also wanted to keep my card simple as I was reproducing it 20 times.  This is what I came up with:

Welcome card--school year 2009

Welcome card--school year 2009

It was really pretty simple to create.  I cut A LOT of 1 inch x 1 inch pieces of the Good Morning Sunshine paper and just randomly mounted them on all of the cards.  I then used the Chocolate Striped Grosgrain ribbon and the stamp set “Warm Words” for the “welcome” in Chocolate Chip ink.  Each card is different in that they have different pieces of the DSP on them, but the method and  manner they were created is the same and they all coordinate. I will probably create some form of “welcome” sign for the classroom using this paper to coordinate with what I’m sending with what the children may see in the classroom.

I would highly suggest a design such as this if you are looking to use up some of your paper.  This is a picture of the stacks of cards completed.

(You may notice one of them has a yellow oval on it. The “welcome” didn’t turn out too well on the Very Vanilla cardstock, so I “fixed” my mistake by covering it with a punched embellishment.) Now all I need to do is write them all!!

The Tale of two challenges

I really am enjoying finding stamping challenges this week. I’m going to commit myself, after this week, to do at least one a week.  I think attempting  a full week of challenges will be too daunting weekly. Not only do I not necessarily have the time to create that frequently weekly, the search itself is time consuming.  For my next card I really wanted to do attempt Kristina Werner’s color inspiration.  I love her work and her eye for color combinations is unique and always on par. So…the colors I was choosing were based on her Inspiration #56

Kwerner Color Inspiration

Kwerner Color Inspiration

The colors she’d noted were a deep red, pumpkin, saffron, celery and ballet blue.  I then needed to find sketch.  A sketch is layout for a card.  I often just put pieces together and see what “works”, but honestly having a sketch sometimes can be an easier way to create.  I was inspired by Beate Johns who completed a Weekend Sketch Challenge #89.  Her card is NOTHING like the one I ultimately made–honestly her work is SOO much better then mine–but I love her blog and when I saw the sketch I knew it would be one I could work with.    So…using those two challenges, I created the following card:

Love you Much-WSC#89, Kwerner CI56

Love you Much-WSC#89, Kwerner CI56

To create this card I used the following recipe:  Stamp set: Love You much
Paper: Riding Hood Red, Candy Lane Designer Paper, Certainly Celery, Ballet Blue, Whisper White
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron, Certainly Celery, Riding Hood Red, Ballet Blue
Accessories: Fairy Tales Riboon (So Saffron), 3 heart punch

The color Riding Hood Red is no longer available through Stampin’ Up!, nor is the ribbon or designer paper I used, but I have tons of those products leftover, and thought they would be great for this card.  For personal creations, I do sometimes use paper or accessories that can no longer be purchased, however, if anything seen interests you…there are always similar items that Stampin’ Up! sells and I can assist you with finding these products.

My final goal of this week will be to create something using primary colors from the Color Inspiration–Summer River as well as this week’s Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge.  Whether I do one card to meet both challenges, or two seperate items….you’ll have to come back and see!

Second Challenge of the Week

This morning I awoke REALLY early and had a decently long “to do” list to try to get to.  Some of the items included: finish unpacking from my trip, clean the kitchen, vacuum, work on my blog, complete another stamp challenge, sort some clothes for good will, and go to Staples and the grocery store.  The ONLY items on this list that got completed were cleaning the kitchen, working on my blog and completing another stamp challenge!  I guess being on “summer vacation” means I find I can put some things off!! The weather was gorgeous today, so I did spend a good part of the day outside.  Tomorrow I have a lot of little errands planned, including lunch with friends, so I KNOW I’ll be out and about and get more items accomplished.  I may not get to stamping tomorrow though…I meeting a friend out in the evening to catch up as well as give her some Stampin’ Up! Inspiration.  If I don’t do a challenge…I’ll combine two on my next challenge of the week!

I was searching for something to do for my challenge and I chose the Stamp Something: Pink, Green and Yellow challenge.  I wanted to continue to use my new “toys” that I’d received but hadn’t used. One of the stamp sets I’d received when I was able to pre-order some items (a perk one gets as a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator) was the Level three Hostess set The More the Merrier.  This set has some GREAT images and sayings.  I really like the cupcakes, but wasn’t so sure about having them horizontal.  I envisioned using them vertically.  There are multiple ways one can use a stamp to change the direction of an image, but tonight I went an “easy” way.  I just stamped the image in black on Whisper White cardstock and then colored all the cupcakes in.  I then cut them out and mounted them on my card using dimensionals.  I also chose to use  the new In-colors for my pink and yellow.  I KNOW that the picture could be clearer, but I wanted to post it TONIGHT.  If I get a better picture taken in natural light, I’ll edit this and add a better picture.  Without further ado….here is my submission for the Stamp Something Challenge:

Stamp Something Challenge: Pink, Yellow and Green

Stamp Something Challenge: Pink, Yellow and Green

Recipe: Paper: Garden Green (dimension is 4 1/4 x7), Melon Mambo, Razzleberry Designer Paper, Whisper White            Ink: Garden Green, Basic Black, Melon Mambo, Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa                                                  Stamp Set: The More the Merrier         Accessories: Melon Mambo Polka Dot Ribbon, Modern label punch

I chose the Garden Green because it happened to be on my stamp table from last night…but I really think it worked.  I really like the little cupcakes! I’m not sure what I’ll do with this card, but I like that I now have it on hand if needed, and the little sentiment “sweetest ever” could go for some many people and occasions.  Next mission will be to find a sketch challenge to tackle, and incorporate another color challenge, or other type of challenge within the card!

Quick Thank You!

Take a look at my new banner!! How cute?!?!  And not as “scary” as the big black eyes!!  The cat is mine (Espresso!) and I HAD to have her be part of the banner, given this blog is named for her!  My friend Kate offered to help me create a new, better banner.  She really thought about my personality, what I like and how I’d want to be represented.  THANK YOU! for helping out.  Isn’t it cute??
