A week of Challenges

I’m home from my week away and I have committed to myself that I’m going to STAMP this week. My creative mojo has been lacking recently and I haven’t just stamped for myself in quite some time. Having committed myself to this, I then needed to think about WHAT I wanted to do!  I was inspired by my friend Kate‘s Color Inspiration post.  She took this gorgeous picture:

KateColor inspand then ran it through an amazing color program, colr.org to determine some of the primary and secondary colors that were refelected in the photo.  As a secondary color scheme within the shadows of the photo, she found that there were the Stampin’ Up! colors: Chocolate Chip, Elegant Eggplant, Garden Green and Night of Navy.  She set a challenge to use these colors within a card or other crafting item.

I recieved some new “goodies” from the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog and have yet to use any of them!  SO…tonight I broke out the Razzle Dazzle Stamp set and took to the challenge.  This is the card I created:

OnyxStamps Summer River Challenge

OnyxStamps Summer River Challenge

Here is the recipe for this card:

Paper: Elegant Eggplant, Chocolate Chip, Night of Navy, Garden Green, Very Vanilla
Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Chocolate Chip, Night of Navy, Garden Green
Accessories: Night of Navy grosgrain ribbon, Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon, Build a Brad, 1/2″ circle punch, modern label punch

It’s a simple design, and honestly not necessarily my best work, but I really love the stamp set!  I enjoyed Kate’s challenge and will be doing more this week. Keep an eye out for more updates and work!

It’s 8:00am and I’m already procrastinating!  I have made the decision to head to the beach for the upcoming weekend/week, but have NO motivation to pack!  I KNOW that once I get there, assuming the weather shifts, I’ll have relax and enjoy myself…it’s just the anticipation that’s killing me.  I have NO CLUE what to pack and what/if any of my stampin’ stuff I should bring. I have plenty of room in my car, but I hate lugging everything.  I also am bringing my cat, which tends to be stressful as well.  I’m going to set a goal for myself…..begin packing clothes and “necessities” around 9am and see how much that adds up to.  THEN…I’ll decide. I have to PLAN a project if I’m going to bring my SU! stuff, otherwise I’ll bring way too much without any direction.  I’ll keep this blog posted regarding my decisions, and if I do make or create anything, I’ll be sure to upload and show it!

The weather where I am has been miserable for the month of June, and hasn’t begun to improve for July. I guess that’s one reason I’ve been hanging out on the computer and playing around with this blog today.  I realized, after I uploaded my prior post, I’d forgotten to watermark my images!! I’m not going to re-post, as I do have the disclaimer on the bottom of my sidebar that all images are copyright Stampin’ Up!, but I then went and began watermarking other photos I have taken recently.  I guess it’s something I will need to remember to do right when I upload my photos.

ANYHOW…in doing so I thought I’d post the following card: Parent Thank YouI used this as my room parent thank you cards. I created this card by stamping the coffee cup from “Pun Fun” three times on some designer series paper.  The paper I chose was from a Sampler pack that can be earned for free to individuals who hostess workshops.  I then cut these all out.  I used the sentiment “thanks a gazillion” from the “Really Retro” sentiments as well as the NEW modern label punch. The colors of paper I used were Very Vanilla (for the base of the card), Close to Cocoa as well as Chocolate Chip.  I used Chocolate taffetta ribbon and the neutrals buttons. Inside I created a pocket and inserted a gift card for coffee for the parents. I hope they enjoyed it, I enjoyed creating the cards!

The school year got away from me and I kinda forgot about this site. Now that summer  I’m recommitting to updating this site and keeping it current! A  Brand New Stampin’ Up! catalog has been released and I am ready for tons of new projects. I’m so excited for this catalog and all of the New In-Colors and new accessories that are in it. One goal for this summer is to do multiple challenges through blogs that I read as well as a lot of personal stampin’.

Over the past months I have been doing a lot of stamping. A main focus of a lot of my work was creating very special projects for one of my closest friends as they were getting married. Their colors were yellow and light blue, so much of what I created used the Stampin’ Up! colors So Saffron and Bashful Blue. Here was the first item I created, my friend Jen’s shower card:
Jen shower
I used the stamp set “Once Upon A Time” as well as the Big Shot Top Note Die. The wedding dress is from an older, retired, hostess set from a number of years ago.

I then made 8 gift bags for her “Girls Night Out”.  A group of us went out to dinner and stayed downtown for the night, so the bag had some “essentials” like water, advil, mints and some snacks. This was the prototype bag. I kept it for myself. The others were similar….but much better. I used the “Cheers to You” stamp set along with the top note die.  The Designer Paper I used was from this year’s Sale-a-bration.

Lastly I created their wedding card. I stuck with the same colors and used the top note again, to match the shower card and gift bags. I used “Cheers to You” again along with a retired stamp set from a few catalogs ago. I used the technique of paper piecing. I embossed some flowers and colored them on very vanilla.  I then cut the layers out and pieced them onto the cake. The details are very hard to see on the photograph, but I truly think it came out well.  I also used the Bella Bleu Designer Paper which is still available in the present catalog.Erik wedding card

Following the wedding I made a frame for them. My friends met in Nantucket, and I was with them when they met. I feel as if I’ve experienced their relationship with them. It brought me great joy to create a special memory of their day, so I created the following frame:
Erik frame I used the Billboard Letters for the Big Shot to create the lettering and had re-matted the frame with some specialty Designer paper that had been in the Spring/Summer catalog.  The LOVE sentiment is a decor element.  I think it came out well, and they really liked it.

As the summer goes on, I intend to be posting more. So come back often, or subscribe to my blog, to see what I add!

When I get home, I put on pajamas

I am MORE then excited.  In less then 12 hours I leave my apartment to head for my upcoming adventures of this weekend.  I’m going to fly to Philadelphia to see friends and begin my INAUGURAL WEEKEND festivities.  I am seeing a lot of friends I haven’t seen in awhile, and do plan to be on the Mall in Washington on Tuesday as the oath of office is taken.  I know I will be one of MANY out there..and won’t necessarily hear/see the oath and speech in the same way I would on the TV, but that will be re-played and I’ll be part of the action!

While all of this is happening, this weekend is also the final weekend of sales for Stampin’ Up!’s Fall/Winter Catalog and on Monday, January 19th at 12:00MDT the NEW Spring/Summer Catalog will be released!!  This weekend will be your LAST CHANCE to get many stamp sets and accessories.  If you are interested in purchasing anything this weekend, go directly to my website to place your order  http://jessh.stampinup.net as I won’t be in constant contact with my email.  And, I would HIGHLY suggest you check out the site on Monday or Tuesday to view the new products and catalog.  There are some AMAZING new stamp sets and accessories being released.  If you are interested in getting a personal catalog…contact me!!

I need to awake early for my flight, so time for some downtime, and sleep.
